It’s been well over a year since I came across a post on hackaday.com where someone had mounted a 7-inch tablet in their car, in place of the radio. After some consideration and thought, I decided to take this on as a project myself! February 1, 2003: STS-107 Columbia

Eleven years ago today, Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated while re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere after a piece of foam insulation broke off from the external fuel tank. The foam struck the shuttles wing, damaging the ceramic tiles that dissipate atmospheric gases during re-entry. These hot gases entered the wing, causing internal destruction to the structure, resulting in the spacecraft breaking apart. Continue reading

January 27, 1967: Apollo 1

Forty-Seven years ago today, NASA lost three astronauts in the first, although occurring on the Earth’s surface, space exploration related accident. Apollo 1 was to be the first manned mission of the lunar landing program in a space race with Russia to the moon’s surface. Launch date was targeted for February 21, 1967 but never reached due to a cabin fire on the launch pad during a launch practice test. Continue reading
